The Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science is funded by the Australian Research Council to bring together researchers and industry to discover new ways to source and use energy.
The Centre is a collaboration between Australian universities and international partners to research better ways to manipulate the way light energy is absorbed, transported and transformed in advanced molecular materials.
They work with industry partners to find innovative solutions for renewable energy in:
Solar energy conversion
Energy-efficient lighting and displays
Security labelling and optical sensor platforms for defence
New ways to coherently control excitons, new excitonic materials, single molecule/nanostructure-controlled excitonic motifs and new theories of exciton transport. These outcomes will impact device-oriented research programs within the Centre, as well as exciton theory in general.
The Theory and Modelling Capability will support the Research Themes by developing a computational materials design methodology that will provide the design rules for next-generation Excitonic materials and their devices by modelling their structure and properties.
