CAMIC is a multidisciplinary research centre that brings together the fields of industrial chemistry, materials chemistry, nanotechnology, catalysis, chemical engineering and electrochemistry.

The Centre for Advanced Materials and Industrial Chemistry (CAMIC) is a renowned multidisciplinary research centre known for performing cutting-edge research in industrial chemistry, nanotechnology and sensing, nano-biotechnology, catalysis, applied electrochemistry, molecular engineering and supramolecular chemistry.

We provide a focal point for academics with a diverse range of expertise to work together on research and industry challenges, providing real world solutions and applications. This is achieved through innovative problem solving, entrepreneurial thinking, and cross disciplinary and global collaborations.

Research areas

Applied electrochemistry

New materials by electrochemical methods, fundamental and applied electrochemistry of metal surfaces, electrodeposition, inorganic materials and the surface chemistry of minerals.

Catalysis

Heterogeneous catalysis with industrial applications, computational materials design.

Molecular engineering

Complexes of gold, palladium and platinum for catalysis and sensing applications. For more details contact the discipline leader

Nano-biotechnology

Innovative biomaterials and medical technologies based upon nanotechnology, includsing the design and development of targeted theranostics, molecular biosensors, and tissue engineered materials for debilitating diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

Resource utilisation

Chemical technologies related to mining: environmental concerns, uranium, copper and ore leaching/processing and remediation.

Nanotechnology and Sensing

Industrial sensors for analytes of global environmental and health significance, such as mercury.

Chemical Engineering

Process intensification, industrial catalysis, polymer composites and hybrids, dense gas/hydrothermal processing and surface functionalisation and immobilisation.
