Gama-dji Orientation Program

A dedicated orientation program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students starting their studies at RMIT.

What is Gama-dji?

Gama-dji is an orientation program designed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they start their studies at RMIT.

During the program you will:

  • Be welcomed onto Country at a ceremony
  • Meet your Student Advisor (see below for more information)
  • Meet other new and continuing  Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and Ngarara Willim staff at a social event
  • Learn about RMIT, Ngarara Willim and available support services at uni
  • Explore campus and find your way around
  • Get help with essential tasks like finalising your enrolment and accessing RMIT systems
  • Get tips on how to settle in to Melbourne, if you're new to the city
  • Learn about various Indigenous community organisations and how they can support you

Student Advisors

During the Gama-dji program you will meet your allocated Student Advisor. Your advisor will be your Ngarara Willim contact for the duration of your RMIT program and will be your point of contact for all your support needs. They'll meet with you throughout semester to ensure you're getting the most out of your time at RMIT and meeting your goals.

Your advisor can provide:

  • Enrolment support
  • Help with goal-setting and coaching
  • Advice on academic, personal and financial issues
  • Assistance with career planning and personal/professional development
  • Connection with cultural, social and global engagement opportunities
  • Connection with Indigenous community organisations

You will be allocated a Student Advisor once you have accepted your RMIT offer. Your advisor will contact you to initiate your first catch up.

Who should attend Gama-dji?

Gama-dji is open to all commencing students who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. It’s highly recommended that you attend.

If you have come to RMIT through the Indigenous Access Program or will be accepting an Indigenous-specific scholarship, attendance is compulsory.
