RMIT is committed to widespread engagement across the community of students and staff to encourage the adoption of sustainable practices and outcomes. The community is engaged through sustainability initiatives including events, behaviour change programs, social media campaigns and living lab projects.
We created the Sustainability Space (10.4.70) on Campus to engage with students, staff and the wider community by building a sense of place for sustainability and facilitating workshops, talks and events.
The space is open most days, so please swing by and say hello and get to know the RMIT Sustainability Team. Our Sustainability Space is free for the RMIT community to book via the Venues Calendar for any event, workshop or seminar that are sustainability related.
RMIT has partnered with ACTS to deliver ‘Acts of Connection’ which is an online series of sustainability-themed ‘acts’ – be they engagement events, activities, shared learning opportunities, competitions or networking events – aimed at connecting a community of passionate individuals who want to learn more about sustainability and find out what they can do to help make the world a better place.

As part of our University-wide digital credentials program, RMIT has a number of sustainability micro-credentials. The creds were developed in partnership with industry to provide a strong foundational knowledge of sustainability. The following creds are available online for RMIT students and staff:
Sustainability 101: Helps learners untangle contemporary approaches to sustainability, giving them a solid grounding in the fundamentals of what it means today. They discover how attitudes towards sustainability are influenced by different worldviews and cultures and learn how to make informed decisions to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Sustainable Change: Gives learners the skills, tools and strategies they need to bring real, sustainable change to an organisation. The course profiles a whole range of approaches taken across different industries, to tackle competing interests inside an organisation and gain practical techniques for measuring success.
Learning to Walk the Talk: Gives learners the skills and know-how to create, promote and drive sustainability changes inside an organisation. It outlines the fundamentals to implement sustainability in a corporate environment, including how to align sustainability with business strategy and how to measure, report and communicate progress. It also demonstrates how to apply the SDGs to a business environment in order to make a real global difference.
Ethical Cities: Developed in partnership with the UN Global Compact, this course gives learners a grounding in building the cities of the future. By embarking on a survey of case studies from around the world and a deep dive into the principles of the United Nations Global Compact, they can construct their own personal approach to improving governance, boosting sustainability and developing a better quality of life for their chosen city.
We deliver an annual calendar of sustainability related events aligned to our Engagement Plan objectives:
