RMIT groups and networks

RMIT LGBTIQA+ Research Network

The RMIT LGBTIQA+ Research Network connects researchers who identify as LGBTIQA+ and/or research in the fields of gender, sex, and sexuality diversity. Researchers from all colleges are welcome to join.

The network is a safe space to express identities and discuss work with peers and offers symposia and seminars as well as social events. If you are interested in joining, please contact: emily.gray@rmit.edu.au

RMIT LGBTIQA+ Working Group (staff and students)

The RMIT LGBTIQA+ Working Group consists of staff and student representatives from the LGBTIQA+ community who advise on LGBTIQA+ inclusive policies and practices at RMIT, as well as organising events and targeted initiatives.

RMIT Pride in Sport

RMIT Sport is proud to support students and staff within our community who identify as LGBTIQA+. We are committed to ensuring our sports clubs, social sports offering, projects and events are inclusive.

RUSU Queer Department

The RUSU Queer Department exists to represent, advocate for and empower RMIT students who identify as LGBTIQA+.

  • Rainbow Network – A directory with Victorian groups and services for LGBTIQ+ young people

Counselling and health

  • Switchboard – Community-based organisation providing peer based, volunteer run support service for LGBTIQ+ people and their friends, families and allies
  • QLife – Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTIQ+ peer support and referrals for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships
  • Queerspace – A LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing support service established by LGBTIQ+ communities for LGBTIQ+ communities with a focus on relationships, families, parenting and young people. Offers co-located services across the north-west metropolitan region of Victoria
  • Thorne Harbour Health – Australia’s oldest HIV/AIDS and LGBTIQ+ health organisation and Victoria’s largest (formerly the Victorian AIDS Council)
  • Rainbow Health Victoria – Supporting LGBTIQ+ health and wellbeing through research and knowledge translation, training, resources, policy advice and service accreditation through the Rainbow Tick
  • LGBTIQ+ Health Australia – The national peak health organisation in Australia for organisations and individuals that provide health-related programs, services and research focused LGBTIQ+ people and communities
  • Headspace – National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds
  • Melbourne Sexual Health Centre (MSHC) – Specialised unit for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmissible infections (STIs). Provides full-time, free sexual health services to the people of Victoria
