Industrial action will be taking place between Monday 25 March (12:30pm) and Thursday 28 March (11:59pm).
RMIT is in the process of renegotiating new enterprise agreements – a legal document that outlines the terms and conditions of employment between an employer and their employees.
The University has been advised that some staff members who are members of the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) may participate in work stoppages on Monday 25 March (from 12:30pm), Tuesday 26 March (full day), Wednesday 27 March (full day) and Thursday 28 March (full day).
As we are not always able to know the impact of industrial action until it takes place, we unfortunately may not be able to tell you in advance if your classes scheduled between Monday afternoon and Thursday are affected.
There is no action that you need to take. Please assume that your classes will go ahead as normal next week, unless you’ve been told otherwise directly from your teacher, program or course coordinator, or updated on Canvas.
RMIT’s City, Bundoora and Brunswick campuses will remain open. Student services, such as our Libraries, Student Connect and Job Shop, will remain open. However there may be delays and reduced services, such as one-on-one study support consultations and Ask the Library webchat, which will not operate during this time. Access to online Library resources will remain available. All further updates will be shared on this webpage.
If you do have classes that are affected, your program or course coordinator will let you know of alternative arrangements as soon as possible. Classes scheduled for the following week will go ahead as timetabled.
For Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students, please contact your HDR Coordinator/Delegated Authority to understand any impacts (such as access to supervisors and/or laboratories).
RMIT's primary concern is the health and safety of its students, staff and other members of the public attending campus during times of industrial action.

If your teacher is a NTEU member and chooses to participate in industrial action and cancel a class, they will inform all students enrolled in the class via Canvas or email. Please continue to monitor Canvas and your student email inbox for information.

Yes all students are to submit all assessments on the Canvas published due date. If you have a timed assessment (in class test, etc), you should assume your class will go ahead as planned, unless your teacher informs you that your class has been cancelled.

Industrial action may occur while RMIT negotiates new enterprise agreements for its staff. It’s important to note that action can only be taken by staff that are NTEU members, which represents a small cohort of our community.
