There may be other expenses associated with your study in addition to tuition fees.
Below is a summary of the types of fees, charges and fines you may encounter while studying at RMIT. This fee information applies to local and international students.
The student services and amenities fee (SSAF) is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student. The SSAF helps ensure that RMIT can maintain its support for initiatives that deliver an outstanding experience for all students.
Materials fees include fees and charges associated with field trips or goods that are used to produce items that become your physical property. The materials fees associated with the program or course (subject) you are studying are made available prior to the start of the academic year.
These fees are not compulsory and you may choose to purchase these items independently. (This excludes materials fees for flight training, see the section below.) Materials fees are only levied with your consent, and you will only be charged if you have signed and submitted a Voluntary materials and other fees form.
RMIT makes every effort to ensure that materials fees are kept to a minimum and are competitive with alternative suppliers. All of RMIT's materials fees are compliant with the strict government guidelines the University must abide by and the fees are reviewed each year on your behalf by the RMIT Student Union.
Browse the schedule below to find out what materials fees are associated with the program and courses you’re enrolled in or interested in undertaking.
If you are enrolled in the Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) or Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation)(Piloting stream), you must complete your flight training at RMIT. Additional fees apply depending on the program.
You will also be required to purchase items related to your program, such as textbooks, equipment and uniforms.
Detailed information about these fees is available on the materials fees schedule and on the individual program pages.
Applicable to both local and international students.
You will be charged a specific tuition fee for each course in the program. Where you complete flight training as part of a course of study, the tuition fee includes the cost of the standard number of flying hours required to achieve the necessary competencies for that course.
In some situations, you may require additional training above the standard allotted flying hours for a course to achieve competency. When this occurs, you will be charged materials fees to cover the cost of the additional flight training provided. These fees are detailed within the materials fee schedule and on the Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) program page.
For international students, the program tuition fee excludes the cost of flight training. Students will be charged materials fees for the standard number of flying hours required for each relevant course, as well as for the cost of any additional flight training needed to achieve competency.
Local students will enrol in the Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilots) to complete their flight training, and the flight training tuition fee arrangements for that program will apply.
Administrative fees are a range of fees and charges that apply to specific services or goods supplied by the university. These fees are only payable if you use the goods or services they relate to.
For example:
The university has a number of financial penalties and fines that are principally levied as a disincentive. These fines are designed to discourage students from breaking university rules and may be levied when these rules are broken.
