Applying to RMIT

A comprehensive step-by-step guide on how to apply at RMIT can be found here

After you have submitted your application, you can reply to the notification email you received from RMIT in your inbox.

You can also get in touch with the International Team for your region for any questions about your application or studying at RMIT.

There is a section in your application where you can indicate that you want to apply for credit on the basis of prior study or learning. You should include relevant documentation with your application for assessment.

It’s important to keep in mind that if you’re eligible for credit, this may reduce the total duration required to complete your program, therefore affecting the duration of your student visa (if applicable).

If you’re planning to study at RMIT on a student visa, you will need to have appropriate welfare arrangements in place until you turn 18. These arrangements need to be approved by RMIT and are essential for your student visa application.

To find out how to apply as an under 18 student and what you need to do to accept an offer, visit the Students under 18 years of age page.

RMIT will accept online, unofficial or uncertified copies of academic documents to make an initial assessment, provided they show clearly the details of the institution, student’s detail and the title of the qualification. If you satisfy admission requirements, you may be issued with a conditional offer.

Applicants will be required to provide certified copies of official documents as soon as they become available to meet the conditions of their offer. In situations where official documents will not be available before the start of semester, applicants may be eligible for special consideration. For assistance, please contact the International Team for your region.

You can email a query to support@studylink.com and advise them of the technical issue you’re facing, and they will help you to solve this issue.

If you’re having issues meeting admission requirements, you may consider applying for an English Study (ELICOS) packaged pathway or referring to our Pathway Finder to see if you can find an alternative pathway into your preferred program.

For further assistance with your options, book a free 1-on-1 appointment with an RMIT International Student Advisor.

If you would like to change your preference or apply for a pathway, you can request a change via the online application portal. Your application will be re-assessed against the admissions requirements of your new program.

If you have already started your studies at RMIT and would like to change programs, you will need to submit a new application for the next available intake via the online application portal. You may also apply for credit transfer for any successfully completed studies at RMIT (or at another institution) at the time of application. If you need assistance, you can contact the team at Study@RMIT.

Accepting your offer

Your offer letter outlines the deposit payment required to accept your offer and secure your place in your program. This payment is allocated towards tuition for your first semester and, if applicable, your OSHC and ELICOS tuition fees and enrolment fee.

After you have enrolled, you will be invoiced for any outstanding tuition or fees due. Due dates vary depending on the charge and are displayed clearly on your invoice. For further information about your fees, visit the Understand your fees page.

You are given the option to defer your offer to a future intake when you respond to your offer via the online application portal. Your application will be re-assessed against admission requirements for the new intake and, if eligible, you will be issued with a new offer. Make sure you refer to the specific program details on our website to find out intake requirements. Not all programs have more than one intake a year and some intakes have specific admissions requirements due to program structures.

Your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) will be issued to you once you have met all conditions of your offer (if applicable) and you have accepted your offer and paid your deposit.

For all information related to remote/online learning and delivery of classes, please visit the Information for International Students Outside of Australia webpage.

Class start dates will be included in your offer letter and on your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

You can also refer to our important dates website to find information related to class start and other important dates scheduled throughout the year.

Once your acceptance has been finalised, you can apply for your Student Visa (if applicable) and get ready to start your studies at RMIT. Find the information you need to enrol and get started at RMIT here

Fees and scholarships

From 25 November 2022, all academic programs for 2023 intakes will require an AU$9,000 tuition fee deposit to accept an offer. Any offers made prior to 25 November for 2023 intakes will not be re-issued but can be accepted with an AU$9,000 tuition fee deposit. All ELICOS fees will also need to be paid at the time of acceptance as stated on the offer letter (if applicable). Payment for OSHC or evidence of a current program length policy issued by an approved insurance provider will also be required at the time of acceptance.

If a revised offer is required for bank loans or other financial reasons, a request can be submitted via the application portal

You can accept your offer and complete the payment via the application portal. There are two ways you can pay your deposit:

  • Convera money transfer (formally Western Union)*
  • Credit Card (Mastercard and VISA card only)

* Please be aware that payments cannot be made via Convera originating from Afghanistan, Belarus, Cuba, certain areas within Ukraine/Russia (Crimea Region, Donetsk Region, Luhansk Region), Iran, Russia, Syria, and Venezuela.

Please contact isacceptances@rmit.edu.au to discuss alternative payment options.

There are no payment plans available for applicants. Fees are invoiced per semester based on the enrolment load for that semester, with some exceptions. For further details, visit Tuition fees.

English language requirements and the RMIT English Worldwide Placement Test

International students can prove their English language proficiency via one of these three options:

  1. an accepted English language proficiency test, or
  2. an accepted English language provider, or
  3. a recognised qualification

Minimum English language requirements are specific to each program. Check the requirements by visiting Study with us and searching for your program.

Study abroad and exchange students coming to Melbourne have their own English language requirements they should review.

No, RMIT does not offer an English test you can sit to satisfy English language proficiency requirements and gain direct entry to your program at RMIT.

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course gives you the academic English skills you need to pathway into your program at RMIT without the need to take a formal English test. You can request to package EAP (between 10 weeks and 60 weeks) with your program provided the minimum English requirements to your program are an IELTS score of 6.5 overall (or equivalent) or less.

If your program requires a higher level of English proficiency (ie IELTS score of 7.0 or higher), you cannot apply for an EAP package. You will need to sit for an approved test to satisfy requirements.

If you haven’t sat for IELTS, TOEFL iBT or PTE (A) within the last 24 months, you can sit the free RMIT English Worldwide placement test to determine the most appropriate starting level for a minimum 10 weeks of study at REW. The REW Placement Test cannot be used to gain direct entry to RMIT University.
